It was another excellent weekend for Europe’s new super sire, Dubawi (Dubai Millennium), pictured, having sired three stakes winners on Saturday, two in Britain and one in France to now be the sire of 18 stakes winners of which 17 have won 22 races in 2010 (includes Southern hemisphere results). At 14:45 (GMT) Dubawi in sired two stakes winner. In France he sired the three-year-old colt, Prince Bishop, to win the Prix du Prince d'Orange (Gr 3) at Longchamp over 10 furlongs. Prince Bishop is out of a Prospect Bay daughter so therefore is Dubawi’s first stakes winner out of a Mr Prospector line. There is more to this pattern than just a 4x4 pattern to Mr Prospector as both Seeking the Gold (Mr Prospector), Dubawi grand-sire, and Prospector Bay (Crafty Prospector) both hols Buckpasser in their pedigrees. Therefore there a duplication of the influential Mr Prospector/Buckpasser cross.
It was 14:45 race at Ayr, in Scotland, that also saw Dubawi sire yet another new stakes winner. The light raced Majestic Dubawi proved to good for her rivals to with the a ready winner of the Firth of Clyde Stakes (Gr 3), a 6 furlong race for two-year-old fillies. What was extraordinary was that Majestic Dubawi beat her sire’s Shamardal (Giant’s Causeway) half-sister, Ragsah. Majestic Dubawi, who cost 22,000gns at Tattersalls October 2 Sale in 2009, is out of Tidal Chorus (Singspiel), a half-sister to the Listed winner South Rock (Rock City). The second-dam South Shore is a half-sister to Lockinge Stakes (Gr 1) winner Soviet Line.
It is Majestic Dubawi’s pedigree pattern that hold most interest for me as it holds interesting duplication. With both Dubawi and Singspiel being from the same family there is line-breeding to Sunbittern. This because Singspiel’s sire, In The Wing’s (Sadler’s Wells) holds this name as his second dam. Sunbittern occurs in Dubawi pedigree as she is the fourth dam on Dubawi bottom line. However what make this line-breeding particularly fascinating is that the duplication of Sunbittern also occurs with Shirley Heights (Mill Reef) as In The Wing’s dam is by Shirley Heights and out of Sunbittern, while Dubawi’s dam is by the Shirley Heights horse, Deploy, and out of Jawaher, a granddaughter of Sunbittern. Therefore we have a duplication of the Shirley Heights/Sunbittern cross. With also further duplication of High Line in the pedigree, via High Tern (Dubawi third dam) and Shore Line (Majestic Dubawi’s 3rd dam) pedigree has plenty to it.
The third stakes winner was Astrophysical Jet having followed up her Flying Five Stakes (Gr 2) success with an equally impressive display in the Dubai Airport World Trophy (Gr 3), also over 5 furlongs. I have written about her pedigree in my recent Pedigree Thoughts newsletter. Click here to read it. CWC
